lack of control

So I’m a guy that keeps getting this Title Nine women’s athletic clothing catalog sent to me. I called to cancel it and it stops for a while. Then it starts up again. Title Nine customer service tells me they rebought my information from someone and now it’s ok to continue sending me the catalog even though I don’t want it or use it and that they can’t control and stop the catalog being sent to me. Their catalog to be clear on this. A catalog that just goes back in the recycling. So much for “Paper from responsible sources.” I have to contact any company they are buying my information from to stop getting the catalog. That’s screwed up.

The world is becoming larger in many ways

His note (hopefully no mistakes in typing it out):

“Hi Jennifer,

It’s unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn’t improved for many years. Surely you don’t consider yourself a suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular. Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you’ll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.”

Caveat: Being large doesn’t mean you are out of shape (sumo) and thin doesn’t mean you are in shape (blown over by a breeze).

I can’t say that I took the email the same way she did. I didn’t see it as bullying. He could have posted it on facebook or some other public way but he sent it in a private email. As someone that is supposed to be promoting health, I continue to struggle to eat better and continue exercising because 1. I want to do it for myself and 2. I AM a public figure and people might have a better outcome if I can show that I can do what it takes to stay in shape. The same way public servants that work in a protective manner should also probably have to stay in shape. You don’t look at an obese police officer and think “glad he can run down a bad guy”. She isn’t a government public servant and I don’t know what she does on her show but she is in the public eye. Hopefully she isn’t promoting unhealthy foods or activities that are detrimental. I would say she is NOT like many of the other heavy on air personalities that have made a (drastic) change (Drew Carey, Michael Moore, Star Jones, Al Roker) whether for themselves or because they were prompted by their network. I think the people watching them probably noticed that they look a lot better than they used it and maybe even start noticing that they might be unhealthy themselves (didn’t say overweight).
